| | | Christopher Coogan, MD | | Christopher Coogan, MD, is a board certified urologist. He graduated from Rush Medical College in 1990. Dr. Coogan continued at Rush Presbyterian to complete an internship and residency in general surgery and urology, including chief residency in urology. He continued to serve as a professor at the Rush Medical College and is currently the Associate Professor.
After his residency at Rush, Dr. Coogan went on to a fellowship in urologic oncology at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Coogan has been featured on ABC News to speak on prostate cancer and the importance of cancer screening. He has been the principle investigator in several studies of the prostate and contributed chapters to textbooks detailing matters of urological health.
Some of the special procedures that Dr. Coogan uses are hand-assisted laparoscopic nephrectomy, nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, minimally invasive procedures for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), female incontinence procedures, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), ureteroscopy da Vinci robotic prostatectomy.
He has a number of research interests including new tumor markers in prostate and bladder cancer, improved quality of life after cancer operations and the study of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
