Temporary Traffic Changes at Rush

Please allow extra time for your trip to Rush. We are renovating facilities. Beginning April 20 and continuing until the end of 2008, traffic on Harrison Street will be rerouted. Download a PDF of the map and instructions or call (888) 352-RUSH for more information.

To provide our patients with the best possible care, Rush is renovating its campus facilities. The heart of this project is the construction of a new hospital that will transform the patient experience at Rush.

This welcoming, patient-centered facility will include the latest technology, environmentally friendly features, sophisticated specialty care centers and one of the nation's most advanced emergency rooms.

We are about to begin building an underground supply tunnel that will connect this site to the future location of our new hospital on the north side of Harrison Street.

We realize that these changes may cause traffic delays and recommend that you allow extra time for your visits to Rush. We appreciate your patience during our construction and apologize for any inconvenience.

During tunnel construction, traffic will be temporarily rerouted on Harrison Street as follows:

  • Beginning in April through the end of 2008, Harrison Street between Ashland Avenue and Paulina Street will become one way, going west.
  • Eastbound traffic on Harrison Street will be detoured between Paulina Street and Ashland Avenue, except for a single lane leading into the main Rush parking garage.
  • All other eastbound traffic on Harrison Street will be detoured south on Paulina Street to Polk Street. Please see the map on the reverse side for details.

These changes are a necessary step toward building state-of-the-art health care facilities that will enable us to provide even better care for you and all our valued patients. Be assured that our staff is working diligently to minimize disruptions.

Entering and Exiting Rush Main Parking Garage

Entering Main Parking Garage During construction, patients may continue to enter and exit the main parking garage on Harrison Street from either the east or west.

However, upon leaving the parking garage, all traffic must exit left, proceeding west.

Exiting Main Parking Garage

The recommended route to I-290 is to take Harrison Street west to Damen Avenue, where you can access the eastbound and westbound ramps.

Patients who wish to go east immediately upon leaving the parking garage must turn left onto Paulina Street, drive south to Polk Street and then take another left, heading east to Ashland Avenue. Detour signs will be posted to direct you.

Entering and Exiting Professional Office Building

Patients and visitors may continue to enter and exit the Professional Office Building onto Harrison Street from either the east or west. Upon exiting, you may do either of the following: proceed west (left); or go east (right) to Paulina Street, where you have two options: continue straight to the main Rush parking garage only or turn right onto Paulina Street, heading south toward Polk Street and the detour back to Ashland Avenue.

If you still have questions about getting around Rush, please or call (888) 352-RUSH.
