Clinical Services at Rush Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology

Second Opinion Services

We offer consultation or second opinion on previously reported pathology cases involving gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas. Dr. Jakate has 14 years of consultation practice regionally and nationally, providing such services to primary pathologists, gastroenterologists, hepatologists and surgeons. This consultation offers a unique pathology perspective correlating the clinical, laboratory, endoscopic and radiological profile. For every case, Dr. Jakate would be happy to contact multiple physicians to clarify, discuss and provide feedback in order to provide a comprehensive assessment of the case. As a matter of policy, we return all submitted slides and other material along with our consultation report to the primary pathology laboratory.

How to Send a Case for Consultation

If you are a patient seeking a second opinion:

You will have to request and authorize the release of the pathology report and the glass slides of your case, and forward these to us. In addition, we would like to know the name, contact information (phone and fax number) of your treating physician so we can provide consultation to him or her.

If you are a pathologist seeking a second opinion:

Please provide us with your complete or incomplete pathology report, H&E glass slides, pertinent special or IHC stains, and in challenging cases, about five unstained sections of the lesion. Please provide us with your contact information so we can offer quick phone and fax consultation.

If you are a treating physician seeking a second opinion:

Please arrange for the release of the pathology report and glass slides of your patient, and forward these to us. Any pertinent lab, imaging and other clinical data is extremely valuable in providing comprehensive consultation. Also, provide us with your contact information so we can offer quick phone and fax consultation.
