Efficacy of a nutritional algorithm in the medical intensive care unit
Early enteral nutrition has been demonstrated to decrease septic complications and hospital stay in the critically ill patient. In addition, early enteral nutrition has been shown to be more cost-effective and have less overall complications than parenteral nutrition in the intensive care setting. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of instituting a nutritional algorithm in the intensive care unit on physician knowledge regarding the choice of the most appropriate means of nutrition and overall nutritional parameters in the critically ill.
Patients may be eligible to participate in this study if they have been admitted to the medical intensive care unit. This is a partial list of eligibility requirements.
