Clinical Trial Title

Assessing the impact of dietitian order writing privileges on a multidisciplinary nutrition support team: a quality improvement model

Clinical Trial Protocol Description

This research study will compare the initiation, duration, appropriateness and associated complications of parenteral nutrition (PN) from June 2003-May 2005, when the nutrition support team was a consultative service, to June 2005 to May 2007, after dietitians on the NST were granted PN order writing privileges. Data will be collected from both a department PN database and patient medical records. Data analysis will focus on a comparison of initiation, duration, appropriateness and associated complications with PN before and after dietitians were granted PN order writing privileges.
