About Rush Orthopedic Building at Rush

The Orthopedic Building at Rush University Medical Center, located at 1611 W. Harrison Street, offers comprehensive outpatient care.

The first four floors of this 220,000-square-foot building are home to Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, featuring 60 examination rooms, six x-ray and imaging suites, an imaging center with CT and two MRIs, full-service physical and occupational therapy facilities, orthotics and prosthetic services, and research facilities of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

The Orthopedic Building at Rush has been awarded Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Learn more.

These include laboratories for Human Motion Analysis, Biomechanics, Tribology (the study of friction, lubrication and wear) and Implant Retrieval.

Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, the private practice medical group whose 38 physicians are on the Rush faculty, has relocated its clinical facilities and physician offices to the new Orthopedic Building.

Beginning in May, three Rush clinical services will move to the fifth floor of the new Orthopedic Building. These include:

  • University Rheumatologists
  • Communication Disorders and Sciences, including Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology
  • Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery

The building also contains offices for all orthopedic surgeons, researchers and staff, a conference and learning center, and a convenience store on the first floor managed by the Chicago Lighthouse for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired.

The Orthopedic Building marks an important milestone in the 10-year Rush Transformation, a comprehensive campus redevelopment program that includes a 14-floor new hospital building currently under construction directly across the street from the Orthopedic Building. The new Rush hospital building will open in 2012.
