Study of a new system for deep brain stimulation
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of a new system for deep brain stimulation. This is a multicenter study where everyone will receive the Stimulator system. At Rush University Medical Center we expect to recruit approximately eight patients.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

Have signed an informed consent

Are 18 to 80 years of age

Have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease for at least five (5) years according to standard practice

Experience six (6) hours or more of daily “non-on time” illustrated by a dyskinesia diary as off time or moderate to severe dyskinesias due to Parkinson’s disease (PD) during waking hours

Have a Hoehn & Yahr stage of 3 or greater in the "off" state

Have a history of improvement of Parkinson’s symptoms as a direct result of administering l-dopa to the subject with at least a 33% improvement in Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) motor score
You will be excluded from this study if you:

Are not a surgical candidate

Have any major illness or medical condition that in the opinion of the physician would interfere with participation in the study

Have untreated clinically significant depression

Have had an electrical or electromagnetic implant (e.g. cochlear prosthesis or pacemaker)

Have any condition requiring repeated MRI scans
