| | | Allen Browne, MD | | Allen F. Browne, MD, FACS, FAAP, is an attending physician in the Department of Pediatrics at Rush University Medical Cente. He specializes in general pediatric surgery, neonatal and oncologic pediatric surgery, bariatric surgery for children, and minimally invasive surgery in infants and children. Dr. Browne’s specialty procedures are thoracoscopic surgery in infants and children, laparascopy in infants and children, and adjustable gastric band placement in obese children.
Dr. Browne received his medical degree from the George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, DC, in 1971 and completed his residency in general surgery at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, in 1979. He then did pediatric surgery fellowships at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Columbus Children’s Hospital in Ohio from 1979 to 1982. From 1972 to 1975 he served in the US Army.
Dr. Browne was an attending pediatric surgeon at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont and director of the Section of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Vermont School of Medicine, Burlington, from 1982 to 1990. From 1990 to 2004 he was an attending pediatric surgeon at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, Portland, Maine, a clinical professor of surgery at the University of Vermont and director of undergraduate surgical education at the Maine Medical Center. He came to Rush Children's Hospital in 2004.
Dr.Browne received his board certifications from the National Board of Medical Examiners in 1972, and American Board of Surgery, general surgery, in 1981, 1990 and 2001. He received his board certifications for pediatric surgery in 1984, 1993 and 2004. He was board certified in surgical critical care in 1990.
Dr. Browne makes presentations on pediatric surgery, minimally invasive pediatric surgery and pediatric bariatric surgery at local, state and national levels.
