October is Audiology Awareness Month
More than 36 million American adults have some degree of hearing loss, an increasing health concern in the United States that is often preventable. Make an appointment with a Rush audiologist this October during National Audiology Awareness Month.
Services for Adults
We routinely provide the following diagnostic services for our adult patients:
- Hearing testing
- Specialized tests of the auditory system, including auditory brainstem response (ABR) and otoacoustic emissions (OAE)
- Balance (vestibular) evaluations using electonystagmography (ENG) or videonystagmography (VNG)
- Facial nerve function studies using electroneuronography (ENoG)
In addition, we provide the following rehabilitative services to our adult patients:
- Hearing aid evaluations
- Hearing aid fittings
- Hearing aid reprogramming, repairs and other follow-up services
- Cochlear implant evaluations
- Cochlear implant mappings and follow-up services
- BAHA (bone-anchored hearing aid) evaluations
- BAHA fittings and follow-up services
- Auditory rehabilitation for hearing aid, BAHA and cochlear implant users
Services for Children and Adolescents
For our pediatric patients, we provide the following diagnostic services:
- Diagnostic evaluations for infants who did not pass the newborn hearing screening
- Behavioral hearing evaluations for infants and children
- Specialized testing of the auditory system, including auditory brainstem response (ABR), auditory steady state response (ASSR), otoacoustic emissions (OAE)
- Central auditory processing (CAP) testing and diagnosis
Pediatric rehabilitation services include:
- Hearing aid evaluations for newborns, toddlers and pediatrics
- Hearing aid fittings
- Hearing aid programming, repairs and other follow-up services as needed
- Functional assessment of the infant or childs listening abilities
- Auditory habilitation for infants and children with hearing aids
Our staff includes audiologists who are credentialed through the Illinois Early Intervention System and the Division of Specialized Care for Children. We are part of the Rush Craniofacial Team and provide diagnostic and rehabilitation services for children seen through that center. Additionally, we work closely with the school districts to ensure the best care for the school-aged child.
