Alcohol and inflammation in Crohn's and ulcerative colitis
The goal of this study is to look at the effect of alcohol in the gastrointestinal tract. Participation in this study will last approximately seven days. During this time, participants will come to Rush on two occasions. At the first contact, each participant will be given a start up package of materials to complete. It will include questionnaires, a blood collection and a urine collection. In order to participate in the study, the participant must then agree to abstain from alcohol for one week. Each participant will then be given red wine to drink for one week. Each participant will drink two glasses of wine a day for this week. Then we will repeat the blood and urine collections at our clinic. We will then call with our findings.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if:
- You have been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
- Your disease has been inactive disease for the last three months
- You occasionally drink alcohol
- You have no history of alcoholism
