The goal of the program is to provide a safe, effective alternative diagnosis and treatment for a number of gastrointestinal surgical conditions.
Interventional endoscopy allows specially trained gastroenterologists to stage, diagnose and treat benign and malignant conditions of the gastrointestinal tract and offers a minimally invasive alternative to surgery. With interventional endoscopy recovery is often faster, as patients often go home the same day and there are fewer complications involved compared to minimally invasive surgical procedures. The state-of-the-art Interventional Endoscopy Program at Rush is led by John Losurdo, MD, and the team consists of Michael Brown, MD, and Abhitabh Patil, MD.

Our team is involved in many leading edge and investigational techniques and therapies to improve our ability to diagnose cancers and other diseases earlier and allow for endoscopic treatment. Our current research stems from early therapy for Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal cancer to the effects of psychotherapy on cancer victims and their families.
