Donald J. Tanis, MD, is the director of cardiology at RushOak ParkHospital. Tanis received his medical education at UMDNJ-Rutger’s MedicalSchool and completed his internship at BethesdaNavalHospital. He spent four years as a general medical officer in the U.S. Navy and then completed a residency in internal medicine at YaleUniversity. He completed a fellowship in cardiology and interventional cardiology at RushUniversityMedicalCenter. He was in private practice in a five-person group in northwest Indiana for six years before returning to Rush in September 2002.
Tanis has expertise in clinical, nuclear and interventional cardiology. He is certified by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. Tanis also performs stress and transesophageal echocardiography. His research interests include comparison of noninvasive measures of cardiac risk as well as the treatment and prevention of coronary artery disease.
