| | | Philip R. Liebson, MD | | Philip R. Liebson, MD, holds the McMullan-Eybel Chair of Excellence in Clinical Cardiology and is Professor of Medicine, Associate Director of Cardiology for Faculty Development, Associate Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory and Attending Physician of Preventive Cardiology Center. He graduated from Columbia University, and received his medical doctorate degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. He trained in cardiology at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
Dr. Liebson’s research interests include the effects of antihypertensive agents on LV structure and function, risk factors for coronary heart disease and use of contrast echocardiography in atheromatous disease. He was awarded an NHLBI Preventive Cardiology Academic Award in 1985 for development of a Preventive Cardiology Program for the Medical School. He was co-principal investigator of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Suppression Trial (CAST) at Rush and directed the echocardiography substudy in the multi-institutional NHLBI Treatment of Mild Hypertension Study (TOMHS).
Dr. Liebson’s current national educational endeavors include the Vascular Biology Working Group and Emerging Leaders in the Science of Lipid Management. He is currently working on a comprehensive cardiovascular education program for medical students and house officers.
