Top honors for Rush cancer program

This spring the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) presented Rush University Medical Center in Chicago with the 2005 Outstanding Achievement Award. Rush was the only cancer program in Chicago and one of two sites in Illinois to receive this award in 2005.

“Receiving care at a Commission on Cancer-approved program means that patients have access to ongoing clinical trials and to the best treatment options and cancer-related information, education and support,” says Katherine Griem, MD, radiation oncologist and chair of the Rush Cancer Committee.

Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. The CoC gives the award to programs that demonstrate a “commendation” level of compliance with standards for leadership, data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement.
