Giving to Rush Planned Giving - Pooled Income Funds (PIF)
  • An attractive means of accomplishing two important goals: arranging for a modest variable income-stream for life while ultimately supporting Rush’s highest priorities.

  • Typically funded with highly appreciated, capital gains tax-free securities in exchange for a somewhat larger charitable income tax deduction.

  • Similar to a mutual fund, a Pooled Income Fund is a trust fund where your gift is combined ("pooled") with gifts from other donors.

  • The pool is invested and a pro-rata share of all income earned annually is distributed to each donor and/or other income beneficiary.

  • The amount of income is entirely dependent upon the net earnings of the Pooled Income Fund's investments, which vary over time. This means that your income payments will also vary from quarter to quarter.

  • At your death, the remaining proceeds from the gift come to Rush to be added to its general endowment or to support whatever purpose you had designated at the time of the gift.

  • In addition to your quarterly income payments for life, benefits can include avoidance of capital gains taxes, an immediate charitable income tax deduction for the value of the remainder interest—the anticipated future gift to Rush—and reduction in the size of your taxable estate.
