Clinical Services at Rush Rush for Life Program

Rush for Life is an anti-hemophilic factor distribution program owned and operated by the Rush Hemophilia & Thrombophilia Center and sponsored by the Federal Government Department of Health and Human Services. Rush for Life was developed with three goals in mind:

  • To provide low cost anti-hemophilic factor concentrates to patients and families
  • To support the activities of the Rush Hemophilia Treatment Center, including research and clinical activities
  • To support the care of underinsured and noninsured patients

Rush for Life was developed in 1999 as part of our commitment to comprehensive care to patients with bleeding disorders. The Rush Hemophilia and Thrombophilia Center operates Rush for Life with the support of Health Delivery Management, LLC.

A focus on the treatment of coagulopathies allows Rush for Life to provide state-of-the-art care for its patients in a culturally sensitive, family oriented manner with flexibility to deal with individual, patient and family needs.

Rush for Life provides a full range of value-added services at no additional cost to the patient or family beyond that associated with anti-hemophilic factor concentrate. Therefore, you or your child will receive all benefits allowable by law from Rush For Life.

The Rush Hemophilia and Thrombophilia Center is a federally funded hemophilia treatment center that qualifies for a Public Health Service program, allowing us to purchase anti-hemophilic factor concentrate directly from manufacturers such as Alpha, Aventis-Behring, Baxter, Bayer, and Wyeth. Through this special purchasing program, Rush for Life is able to pass on substantial cost savings. Rush for Life operates on a very small profit margin, significantly less than national home care companies. Rush for Life is able to support the Rush Hemophilia and Thrombophilia Center in clinical, educational and research activities. Current research projects supported by Rush for Life include an analysis of the causes of hemophilic joint disease and how this complication might be avoided in the future. Rush for Life supports the ongoing clinical programs of the Rush HTC and will make it possible for us to expand our clinical programs. Rush for Life dollars are also spent on education and outreach to individuals and populations that currently do not have optimal access to state-of-the-art medical car and up-to-date educational materials.

The price Rush for Life charges for anti-hemophilic factor concentrate is determined by the acquisition cost set by manufacturers according to federally defined guidelines, then incorporates our operational costs that include financial screening, obtaining authorization for payment from your insurance or managed care company, pharmacy and distribution services, and billing and collections services. Through a special arrangement, Rush for Life is able to keep the cost of doing business at an absolute minimum so that you can realize maximum savings in purchasing anti-hemophilic factor concentrate.

Rush for Life offers you a unique opportunity to purchase the same high-quality anti-hemophilic factor concentrates at the most competitive price available in the State of Illinois. Your participation in this program will not only help to keep the cost of your or your child's care at an absolute minimum, but also preserves your or your child's lifetime health care cap while supporting the Rush HTC in its clinical, educational and research activities.

Enrolling in Rush for Life is easy. As you know, you have a choice as to how you will obtain anti-hemophilic factor concentrates. There are several national home care companies that supply anti-hemophilic factor concentrates who have a strong reputation in the bleeding disorders community and have experience in hemophilia disease management. Rush for Life offers an additional choice to you. According to federal guidelines, your choice must be documented in writing. A copy of our choice form is available on this site. If you choose Rush for Life or another home care company, you still must complete, sign and date this form. If you choose Rush for Life as your source of anti-hemophilic factor concentrate, please check the box next to "other" and write the words "Rush for Life" on the adjacent line. Then sign and date the form and mailing it to the Rush HTC (address provided on form). If you choose an alternative to Rush for Life, then complete the form in a similar manner: Check the box next to Home Care Company, then enter your choice on the line and sign and date the form.
