What Is MASAC? |

MASAC is the abbreviation for the Medical and Scientific Advisory Council. This special council was established by the National Hemophilia Foundation in 1954 to further clinical care and to support research related to bleeding disorders. This council helps institute medical care guidelines for the treatment of bleeding disorders. Standards of care for treatment of bleeding disorders are based on the recommendations made by MASAC.
Council members are regarded as leading experts in the treatment and research related to care of bleeding disorders. The recommendations made by MASAC are referred to the Board of Directors of the National Hemophilia Foundation for approval. These recommendations are available through the National Hemophilia Foundation.
You may access the MASAC recommendations through the National Hemophilia Foundation Web site. Alternatively, you may order copies of recommendations through the National Hemophilia Foundation’s information clearinghouse (800-42-HANDI) or read them in their quarterly magazine, Hemaware.
