Micah Hughes

Micah Hughes graduated from Wheaton College in May of 2004, with an integrative bachelor’s degree in biology and anthropology and a pre-med focus. Previously he worked in rural Uganda during a six-month internship to develop a research initiative for AIDS prevention and education.

Micah has previously worked at Rush in patient care on a med/surg unit, and is now currently working for Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center as a research assistant II / autopsy technician.

As a research assistant, Micah conducts neurophycometric testing for both clinic patients and research participants. He performs phlebotomy work in venipuncture, blood draw and processing for various clinical trials. He is in charge of processing and coordinating the medical records requests and submissions for the Memory Clinic. He also assists in coordinating the CereGene Clinical Trial study that is half way through the phase one study.

As an autopsy technician, Micah works on call for the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center Laboratory to assist the coordination of the brain and spinal cord autopsy process. Micah works with the family members of the recently deceased in the consenting process as well as coordinating needed team members and funeral services upon the onset of the autopsy. In addition to such coordination Micah personally performs the brain autopsies which include: harvesting, dissecting, and digital photography of brain tissue. His role in the autopsy process also includes front line pathological analysis of post mortem tissue and coordination with the pathology resident to develop the pre-conclusive autopsy report.
