With one of the busiest programs in the Midwest, surgeons at Rush University Medical Center operate on more patients than are seen at any other hospital in Illinois. General surgeons at Rush offer a full range of surgical care, including expertise in the latest minimally invasive techniques. The department includes physicians with expertise in bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, colon and rectal surgery, endocrine surgery, surgical care for cancer patients, pediatric surgery and transplant surgery.

General surgeons at Rush provide a full range of consulting, diagnostic and treatment services. This includes abdominal, laparoscopic, oncologic, endoscopic and endocrine surgery. Special interests inlcude minimally invasive rectal surgery, laparoscopic removal of solid organs such as the adrenal gland and spleen, benign and malignant breast disease, inflammatory and neoplastic pancreatic disease and organ transplantation.
