The Rush University Medical Center Training Center in Chicago, Illinois, has been designated a training center by the American Heart Association (AHA). Courses offered include:

• Basic Life Support (BLS), also known as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• CPR (BLS) Training for Health Care Providers
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

We also offer classes for healthcare providers. These advanced life support courses are intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

Healthcare Provider CPR

Audience:

• The Healthcare Provider course is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
• The course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and relief of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO). 

Core Elements:

• Adult/child/infant CPR
• Barrier devices
• Relief of foreign body airway obstruction (Choking)
• Automated external defibrillator (AED)

Course Length:

• 5-6 hours (full course)
• 3 hours (renewal course)

Certification card issued upon successful completion.

ACLS: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

Audience:

• Designed for healthcare providers who have a duty to respond to medical emergencies. 
• Must have proof of a current Healthcare Provider CPR card to attend.

Core Elements:

• Recognition and therapy of the major ACLS emergency conditions, airway management and electrical therapy.
• Simulated team resuscitation.

Course Length:

• Full course
  • 13-15 hours (two-day format)   
  • 10 hours (one-day format)
• Renewal course
  • 4.5 hours

Certification card issued upon successful completion.

PALS: Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Audience:

• Designed for healthcare providers who have a duty to respond to medical emergencies involving infants and children.
• Must have proof of a current Healthcare Provider card to attend.

Core Elements:

• Case based studies, special conditions predisposing infants and children to cardiopulmonary arrest.
• Simulated team resuscitation.

Course Length:

• Full course 13- 15 hours (two-day format)
• Renewal course 5 hours

Certification card issued upon successful completion.
