Dear Colleague,
When I joined the Rush family as a nurse more than 30 years ago, I knew immediately that I had made the right decision. The challenges and opportunities for development, both professionally and personally, that have been offered to me over the years have been truly phenomenal and I believe to be beyond compare.
Nurses at Rush are expected to be fully engaged in patient care, professional development, education, research and mentorship at all levels. This expectation is one of the primary reasons that Rush is an environment rich with excellent nurses, nurses who are on the forefront of creating and maintaining an outstanding, robust environment in which we and our patients flourish. The culmination of all these efforts resulted in our Magnet designation, which reflects our commitment to high standards and professional development.
Why do I believe Rush nurses are so special? We don’t just follow orders—we take a collaborative approach with the medical staff and administrators to provide excellent and continuously improving patient care. We work in an environment that encourages and expects us to do our best, and we are given the tools and opportunities to do this via an emphasis on continuing education through Rush University.
Here are a few more distinctive features of our environment:
- An outstanding skill mix
- Favorable nurse/patient ratio
- A shared governance model, where nurses have a strong voice in determining and directing our practice
- The opportunity to collaborate with physicians on the leading edge of patient care
- Significant clinical support provided by advanced practice nurses
- Among the highest salaries in the region
- Flexible scheduling plus generous shift differentials
- A superior benefits package
Our unique combination of research and patient care has earned Rush many accolades. In U.S. News & World Report’s 2007 “America’s Best Hospitals” issue, Rush ranked in 11 of 16 categories. Rush was ranked higher than any other Illinois hospital in three specialties: orthopedics, geriatrics, and kidney diseases.
Deciding where to work is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. If the opportunities and challenges of working at Rush intrigue you, I cordially invite you to contact our Human Resources Department by phone at (312) 942-3456 or by fax at (312) 942-3212. Or submit your resume online at our employment site: www.jobsatrush.com.
Thank you for your interest in Rush nursing.
Sincerely,
Jane Llewellyn, RN, PhD, CNAA
