This department offers a variety of critical care practice experiences ranging from general medical to neuroscience critical care. Care is provided in collaborative, interdisciplinary environments using the latest in intensive care nursing and medical techniques.
Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Non-Invasive Respiratory Care (2 Kellogg)
- Provides care for general medicine critically ill patients with multi-system organ failure, respiratory failure, chronic and acute respiratory conditions, renal and liver failure, neurology, ante- and post-partum emergencies, oncological complications and other emergencies
- Strong collaborative relationships with medical staff
- Evidence-based clinical practice
Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), Cardiac Stepdown Unit (CSU) (2 Pavilion)
- Provides care for a variety of patients including those with acute coronary events, unstable angina, dysrhythmias, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension
- Experienced clinical nurse specialist guides and directs an individualized orientation plan for new nurses
- Training and testing available on ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, intra-aortic balloon pumps and multiple ventricular assist devices
Medical/Surgical-CV/Telemetry (8 North Atrium)
- Provides care for cardiovascular/peripheral vascular, thoracic and interventional cardiology patients
- Provides care for post-op neurosurgical patients
- Unit accommodates a large turnover of patients
- Active patient teaching program
Surgical Intensive Care Unit (5 North Atrium)
- Provides care for a wide variety of critically ill post-surgical patients such as open heart, peripheral vascular, thoracic, general surgery, heart and liver transplant
- Nurses, nurse specialists and nurse practitioners are joined by a full interdisciplinary team involved in patient care
Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (8 Kellogg)
- Provides care for population including craniotomy and post-surgical craniotomy patients, vascular malformations and spinal abnormalities
- State-of-the-art technology includes portable CT scanner and stereotactic technology
- Unit promotes strong patient-family-staff interaction and active patient teaching programs

- Offers comprehensive adult and pediatric emergency care
- Fast track available
