Women's and Children's Nursing

This comprehensive department offers opportunities to develop and expand your skills through collaboration with nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and physician colleagues.  

General Pediatrics (5 Pavilion) and Pediatric ICU (5 Kellogg)

  • Wide range of medical-surgical pediatric patients
  • Unique collaboration among nurse, physician and families
  • Clinical activities include an eating disorder program, child life services and oncology training program
  • Transport team and outpatient services available
  • Level III acute care center, transport team, outpatient procedures, child life services 

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (6 Jelke) 

  • Level III regional perinatal center
  • Internationally recognized breast-feeding program and research
  • Wide range of specialty services including respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal, cardiological, neurological and craniofacial
  • Kangaroo Care (program promoting human touch)
  • Share the Science programs encourage family involvement
  • Transport team available
  • Scrapbooking activities involve parents by creating images of their new child

Obstetrical Services: Labor and Delivery and New Life Family Center (6 Kellogg)

  • Provides care to all intrapartum patients, unstable antepartum and postpartum patients
  • Level III labor and delivery center
  • Level III perinatal center for high-risk pregnancies
  • New Life Family Center offers ante- and postpartum care and general care nursery
  • Lactation support services offered
  • Opportunities in obstetrical research available
  • Innovative care including massages, birthing balls and music therapy
  • Scrapbooking activities for antepartum high-risk patients

Women’s and Children’s Float Pool offers:

  • Cross-training on all units in the department
  • Rotation between three and five units upon completion of orientation
  • Opportunity to demonstrate flexibility and to experience all specialties within the department
