Rush earns Magnet designation

"Receiving Magnet designation again is a testament that our nursing staff continues to provide the very best care to our patients."
Larry J. Goodman, MD, President and CEO, Rush University Medical Center

For the second time, Rush University Medical Center was granted Magnet nursing status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This is the highest honor a hospital can receive for nursing services. Rush is the only Illinois hospital serving both adults and children to achieve this designation a second time. Fewer than 50 U.S. hospitals have received Magnet designation twice.

This award says a lot about our outstanding nursing staff. It recognizes that we are experts continually working to improve patient care through specialized training and quality improvements. It acknowledges that our nurses are among the best in attending to patient needs, pursuing ongoing training, working as a team and giving to the community.

Rush received the four-year designation as a Magnet institution after an exhaustive evaluation process coordinated by Jane Llewellyn, RN, DNSc, CNAA, vice president of clinical nursing affairs and associate dean for practice.

Excellent reputation gets even better
Rush nurses play a critical role in ongoing efforts to improve patient care through a shared governance model. And as nurses, we apply our talents everywhere — by volunteering in homeless shelters and parishes, during emergencies or disasters, or by traveling to Third World countries to help others in need. We are committed to maintaining high standards of care and service through Rush's continuing education programs.

The Magnet status places Rush's nursing program in the top tier of U.S. hospitals and recognizes that its nurses are ready, whatever the situation, to lend a helping, caring hand.
