Birth Center Tours

Prospective parents may tour the hospital’s birth center by appointment on Monday through Friday evenings at 8 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. To schedule a tour, call (312) 942-2254. Starting in OB Admitting, 6th Floor Jelke (Take "E" Elevator).

Basic Breastfeeding Class

Provides education, support and guidance for moms who are breastfeeding or deciding about breastfeeding. Once a month on Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room 720 Pavilion (Take "C" elevator to seventh floor). $25 a couple. Class dates for 2013 are: Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 23, April 13, May 11, June 15, July 20, Aug. 24, Sept. 14, Oct. 26, Nov. 9 and Dec. 7. Cesarean Birth Class

Designed for couples anticipating a cesarean birth, the class covers the delivery, hospital stay and physical and emotional changes that may be experienced. Every month (date varies), 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., $50. Call (312) 942-2336 to register or email pamela_napier@rush.edu.

Childbirth Education Class

Sessions focus on physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy, labor and delivery (both vaginal and cesarean delivery), relaxation methods, breathing techniques, nutritional needs, postpartum changes and newborn care. Instruction is provided by registered nurses certified childbirth educators. This is a two-day weekend class, Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Includes a tour of birthing rooms. Fee: $110 for those delivering at Rush; $125 for those delivering elsewhere. Infant/Child CPR classes

This class teaches the basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Learn techniques to save a choking baby or child, basic infant and child CPR, and other safety tips. From 10 a.m. to noon once a month on Saturday. Class dates for 2013 are: Jan.12, Feb. 2, Mar. 2, April 6, May 4, June 1, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 7, Oct. 19, Nov. 16 at 600 S. Refresher Prenatal Class

For all couples who have completed childbirth classes within the last three years. This course is an intense review of breathing and relaxation techniques, coaching skills, and a condensed version of topics covered in the childbirth education classes. Massages

The Women’s and Children’s Resource Center offers relaxing, restorative massages in a private, nurturing environment. Massage therapists offer Swedish and deep tissue massages. A wide variety of complementary techniques are also available upon request. The Women’s and Children’s Resource Center is in Room 810 of the Jones Building, 1653 W.
