Waud Resource Center

Education and Support Groups
for Older Adults and Caregivers

All groups are FREE and parking is validated for the full fee. Groups, unless otherwise noted, are offered at the Anne Byron Waud Resource Center on the fourth floor of the Johnston R. Bowman Center, Suite 438:

Waud Center Education and Support Groups:
  • Families and Friends of People with Memory Loss
    Cosponsored by the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Illinois
    Meets the second Monday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. Are you caring for someone with memory loss, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease? Join us for a support and education group for people who care for individuals affected by memory loss. Caregivers will share experiences, coping strategies and connect with others who truly understand the journey of a caregiver. 
  • LGBT Caregiver Group
    This is an educational support group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons who are attending to a loved one in a time of need. The group meets every first Thursday of the month from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Center on Halsted located at 3656 N Halsted St, Room 223. Parking validations are not provided.

  • Life After Stroke
    Offered in partnership with the Comprehensive Stroke Program at Rush  Meets the first Wednesday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. A two-part education support group — one for caregivers and the other for people affected by stroke.

  • Neurological Family Information Group
    Meets every Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. in the family waiting lounge for the Neurological Intensive Care Unit on the 8th Floor of the Kellogg Building at 1650 W Harrison Street. This group welcomes loved ones of adults with an acquired brain injury such as a tumor, stroke or aneurysm.  Education and support are provided by a stroke survivor, ethicist, and physician.

  • Stroke Education Group for Families and Adult Survivors
    Meets the second Tuesday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. in the waiting area on the 3rd Floor of the Kellogg Building at 1650 W Harrison Street. Join us for a group offering support and information for families and people who have been affected by a stroke. A support team of a physician, nurse and a chaplain to provide stroke education and coping techniques for the changes that occur after a stroke. Free parking and refreshments provided.
