Position and Responsibilities
Dr. Angres has been involved in the field of addiction medicine since 1982. He is the founder and director of Rush Behavioral Health, a multi-site chemical dependency and mental health treatment program of Rush University Medical Center.
Dr. Angres’ specialty area is the treatment of impaired professionals. Rush Behavioral Health - Oak Park is a nationally recognized program specializing in the treatment of impaired professionals, both health care, as well as other high accountability and safety sensitive individuals. This program began under his leadership in 1984 in the Chicago area. It became part of Parkside Medical Services Corporation, a subsidiary of the Lutheran General Health System in 1987. In 1994, it became part of the Department of Psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Angres has also provided leadership in the field of impaired professionals treatment and advocacy both on the local and national levels.
Professional Experience
Dr. Angres is an associate professor of psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center, and is the director of the Section of Addiction Medicine. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with added qualifications in addiction psychiatry. Dr. Angres is also certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is past president of the Illinois Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Angres has served on the faculty for the ASAM Certification Exam Review Course; and as co-chairman for the Midwest Test Development Committee for ASAM. He has lectured extensively on the subjects of disease concept, impaired professionals, dual diagnosis, and the utilization of mindfulness in addictive disease.
Education and Training
Dr. Angres completed his psychiatric residency training at Rush University Medical Center. He has had additional training with the American Academy of Addictionology.
Professional Affiliations and Publications
Dr. Angres has lectured and published extensively in the area of chemical dependency treatment including dual diagnosis and impaired professionals. He is lead author of a textbook on chemical dependency and the physician, Healing the Healer, (PsychoSocial Press, 1999). He has served on multiple committees and recently was given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Society of Addiction Medicine.
