Clinical Services at Rush Gynecologic Cancer Center
Program Description

For three decades, Rush University Medical Center in Chicago—a principal member of the National Cancer Institute’s Gynecology Oncology Group—has paved the way in the multidisciplinary treatment of gynecologic cancers. Established in 1972, the Gynecologic Oncology Center at Rush was one of the first in the region to fight gynecological cancers with a team approach. Because of its team-based approach to care, Rush is able to offer virtually every option available to gynecologic cancer patients, from standard therapies to innovative treatment options.

Services Provided

The center provides evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for women with cervical, uterine, ovarian, vaginal and related gynecological cancers. Many women benefit from chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery or a combination of these therapies. A full range of treatments are offered, from standard therapies to innovative treatment options, and new options are being explored every day. These include:

  • Innovative options for treating ovarian cancer.
  • Genetic testing that could offer early detection to women at high risk for ovarian cancer.
  • Intensive modulated radiation therapy to minimize side effects of radiation.

Clinical Team

At Rush, women don’t see just one doctor. They receive care from a skilled team of specialists: gynecologic oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation therapists and other cancer experts backed up by the comprehensive resources of a world-class academic medical center. In addition to providing expert clinical care, Rush doctors are hard at work at the lab bench, uncovering the nature and root causes of gynecologic cancers. They are also investigating new therapies and translating what they learn into novel, more effective treatments. That dedication to patient care has twice earned one Rush gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Jacob Rotmensch, Chicago Magazine’s Best Physician honor.

Our clinical team includes:

Section Director: Jacob Rotmensch, MD
Nurse Coordinator: Lois Winkleman, MS, RN
Medical Oncologist: Sarah T. Lincoln, MD
