Clinical Services at Rush General Gynecology

Gynecologic Care

While many women seek ob-gyns to care for them during pregnancy, many women need gynecologic care for other health needs related to a woman’s reproductive system, such as endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cancer, menopause and uterine wall prolapse.

Gynecologic conditions

At Rush, there are doctors (general gynecologists, gynecologic oncologistsurogynecologists, reproductive endocrinologists) who specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the reproductive system, including the following:

  • Abdominal uterine bleeding
  • Bowel incontinence (fecal incontinence)
  • Cancer (gynecologic oncologists treat diseases such as cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and uterine cancer)
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Endometriosis
  • Fibroid tumors, or fibroids
  • Hormone dysfunction (hormonal imbalance)
  • Infertility
  • Menopause
  • Missed periods and other menstrual irregularities
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs
  • Urinary incontinence (including stress incontinence)
  • Uterine wall prolapse
  • Vaginal wall prolapse

Gynecologic services

Gynecologists also offer the following services:

  • Birth control consultation
  • Cancer screenings

Specialty programs

Rush also provides care for women through in the following programs:

  • The Fetal and Neonatal Medicine Center assists women who have diagnosed or suspected fetal abnormalities and birth defects during pregnancy.
  • Urogynecologists are part of the Program for Abdominal and Pelvic Health, which takes a multispecialty, comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating a wide range of abdominal and pelvic conditions in women of all ages, including uterine fibroids, pelvic and abdominal pain and vaginal inflammation.
  • Doctors in the gynecologic oncology program treat women with cancers affecting the reproductive system, including cervical cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, vulvar cancer and fallopian tube cancer.
