Clinical Services at Rush Gynecologic Oncology
Program Description

The section of gynecologic oncology provides multidisciplinary long-term care for women with gynecologic malignancies. The clinical mission of the section includes prevention, diagnosis and management of follow-up care for these patients. Members of the section work closely with colleagues in radiation oncology, medical oncology, gynecologic pathology, nursing oncology, clinical psychology and clinical nutrition.

Clinical Team

Jacob Rotmensch, MD, is an attending physician, professor and director in the Section of Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Rotmensch is a leader in the field. In addition to providing expert clinical care, he is hard at work at the lab bench, working to uncover the root causes of gynecologic malignancies, investigating the healing potential of both new medications and radiation therapies, and translating what he learns into novel, more effective treatments. That dedication to patient care—as it is delivered in the clinic and as it is advanced in the laboratory—has twice earned Dr. Rotmensch Chicago Magazine’s Best Physician honor.

Dr. Rotmensch received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee. He completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Rotmensch’s extensive experience includes having served as an assistant professor in obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, as visiting scientist at Argonne National Laboratory (Chemistry Division), and as professor of radiation and cellular oncology and obstetrics and gynecology (joint appointment) at the University of Chicago. He was also director of the Alpha-emitting radionuclide laboratory at the University of Chicago’s Enrico Fermi Institute.

Edgardo L. Yordan, MD, is an attending physician and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology. He completed his residency in 1977 at the Sloan Hospital for Women, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Yordan completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center in 1979. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Yordan first came to Rush in 1980 as an assistant professor and director of the Section of Gynecologic Oncology, and was promoted to associate professor in 1989. He left practice at Rush and became director of the Section of Gynecologic Oncology and, later vice-chairman, of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lutheran General Medical Center. There he developed a large gynecologic oncology practice in the north suburban region.

Dr. Yordan is a member of many societies and has received recognition on two occasions in the “Best 400 Cancer Doctors” in Good Housekeeping magazine. In addition, he has received recognition in Chicago magazine’s "Chicago’s Top Doctors” issue. Dr. Yordan is on the Board of Trustees of the Midtown Educational Foundation, and he continues as a Knight Commander for the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
