The Rush University Hypertension Center assess patients, typically for a second or third opinion, who have had difficulty with blood pressure control or who are at high risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Physicians at the center provide expert consultation--and, in a few cases, serve as the primary caregivers--for patients with hypertension, cardiovascular problems or renal disease. The center offers special expertise in the care of patients with secondary hypertension--that is, high blood pressure due to a specific cause, like a blocked renal artery or a tumor--and people with diabetes and renal insufficiency.
