The Outpatient Psychotherapy Service in the Department of Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center provides a wide range of psychological counseling services for adults. We offer psychotherapy for a broad range of psychological concerns, including:

• Anxiety
• Adjustment issues
• Stress and anger management
• Pain management
• Adjustment of a chronic medical condition
• Relationship issues
• Women's health issues
• Presurgical evaluations for clients considering gastric bypass or laparoscopic gastric banding (lap band) surgery for severe obesity
• Behavioral preparation for gastric bypass or laparoscopic gastric banding (lap band) surgery
• Psychotherapy for adjustment to gastric bypass or laparoscopic gastric banding (lap band) surgery
• Specialized therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder

What to expect

When you call, you will speak with a psychotherapist who will ask you a few brief questions about yourself and your reasons for seeking therapy a this time. We accept most insurance plans and we will obtain authorization from your insurance company prior to your initial visit. Your psychotherapist will complete a thorough evaluation, and in collaboration with you will develop an individualized treatment plan. Our goal is to help you gain insight into your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, and help you learn to modify those that are causing you distress or interfering with your quality of life.
