Program Description

The Pediatric Critical Care Program at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, offers the following:

Patient care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Rush University Medical Center and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County
International outreach with programs in Kenya, Nigeria and Egypt
A research program with ongoing projects in pain control, asthma management, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), sepsis detection and family and medical leave issues for pediatric faculty

Services Provided

The pediatric critical care program at Rush provides services for children with a wide range of severe illness, including the following:

Cardiac illness and cardiac surgery (including heart transplantation)
Severe asthma and respiratory illness
Sepsis
Cancer
Major surgery
Trauma/burns (John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County)
Severe neurologic disorders, including status epilepticus
Metabolic disorders
Liver failure (including transplantation)
Disorders of respiratory control
