Cancer Screening and Prevention
Cancer screening and prevention are priorities at Rush. Through genetic testing, counseling and advanced techniques for early detection, Rush helps people with a strong history of breast, ovarian, colon and other cancers. And in our state-of-the-art mammography center, we have one of the Chicago area's finest teams of radiologists dedicated to early detection of breast cancer.

Our Annual Report
Rush strives to improve access to information on cancer program resources and services for the public. Rush publishes its Cancer Program Annual Report online and collaborates with the American Cancer Society in a voluntary data-sharing project, the Facility Information Profile System. Rush voluntarily submits information to the National Cancer Database, which allows us to monitor national trends and compare our program with others.

Rush cancer programs are approved by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Only one in four hospitals that treat cancer receive this special approval.

At Rush, we offer a range of standard and investigational therapies for the treatment of cancer, including:

Systemic Therapy: We offer a full range of treatments, including chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy and newer targeted therapies.

Radiation: Standard and advanced radiation therapies are available, including TomoTherapy, external beam radiation therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery.

Surgery: A full range of standard cancer surgeries are offered for the diagnosis and treatment of many forms of cancer. Whenever possible, surgeons use minimally invasive techniques to remove tumors.

Bone marrow transplant/stem cell transplant: The Rush Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Center is fully accredited for allogeneic and autologous bone marrow and peripheral blood progenitor cell transplantation.

At our specialized cancer centers and programs, patients receive care from teams of specialists, including medical oncologists, hematologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists and other cancer specialists. These professionals work together to design comprehensive treatment plans to match each patient's needs.
