Donna Bergen, MD, has been a member of the Rush Epilepsy Center since 1975. A professor of neurological sciences at Rush Medical College, she also serves as assistant chair of the Department of Neurological Sciences. She was director of the EEG Lab until 1989; she has written numerous medical articles. Dr. Bergen has spent time abroad, having been a visiting professor in Athens, Greece, and an honorary clinical assistant in London, England.
Dr. Bergen is vice president of the Professional Advisory Board of Epilepsy Services of Northeastern Illinois and secretary of the World Federation of Neurology Research Group on Organization and Delivery of Neurological Services. In the past, Dr. Bergen served as president of the Chicago Neurological Society.
Dr. Bergen started conducting clinical therapeutic trials at the Rush Epilepsy Center in 1986. Since that time, she has participated in more than 40 studies for treatment of epilepsy, using new antiepileptic drugs and vagus nerve stimulation. More than 200 patients have been able to enroll in these studies. She has a special interest on the special concerns of women with epilepsy.
