| | | AFCC participants during day care | | The Alzheimer’s Family Care Center (AFCC) is an adult day center for people with dementia. The center is located at 6141 N. Cicero Ave. on Chicago’s North Side and is a part of the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. The Center is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number is (773) 202-4130.
Services Provided
The AFCC provides affordable day care services designed to enhance the self-esteem, health and independence of participants, while also providing needed respite for family members. The center strives to support each client’s cognitive functioning through structured activities. Typical activities include:
- Reminiscence, focusing on significant life events
- Music for group singing, dancing and movement
- Field trips to the zoo, botanic gardens, picnics, etc.
- Hot meals served daily at noon, plus nutritious snacks
- Continuous health monitoring
The staff’s team approach creates a secure, happy and safe environment for participants in the program. The team is instructed on the unique history of each person, and helps to develop individualized care plans. Because there is typically one staff member for every four participants, the staff is well able to respond to each participant’s needs.
The AFCC encourages family involvement. Staff works with family members to build a partnership of care and support.
Through one-on-one counseling, families learn to handle the daily challenges of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
We invite you to partner with us as we work to provide meaningful activities, meals and recreation to those who attend our day care center.
