At Rush, we see both adults and children with myasthenia gravis. While most of our patients have an autoimmune form of the disease, we are also experienced in treating infants and children who suffer from the rare congenital form of the disease. Our patients have access to the most advanced services available, including the following:
- Sophisticated electromyography (EMG) tests and other advanced diagnostics. Rush is among a select number of medical centers to offer single-fiber EMG — the most sensitive test available for diagnosing myasthenia gravis.
- Innovative medical therapies, including the latest prescription medicines. Our neuromuscular physicians are especially skilled at pinpointing the right medicine and dosage for each patient.
- Minimally invasive thymus surgery. Most patients who choose thymus surgery still have traditional open surgery. At Rush, we also offer a less invasive surgical option: transcervical thymectomy. This allows the surgeon to remove the thymus through a small incision in the neck.
