Clinical Services at Rush Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Clinic
Program Description

Motor neuron diseases generally present with gradually progressive weakness that may start in one limb. Speech may also be affected. Patients suspected of having motor neuron disease are thoroughly evaluated clinically and with electrodiagnostic testing. Necessary blood tests and CT or MRI scans are also obtained and personally reviewed by a neuromuscular physician. Treatment involves a multidisciplinary approach including medication options as well as physical, occupational, respiratory and speech therapies. Treatment is tailored to individual patient need to optimize quality of life. On a daily basis, we are available by phone or page to help our patients and their loved ones cope .

We believe that a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) will one day be found. In fact, Rush is involved in studies that may lead to revolutionary new treatments. Until a cure is found, we are committed to finding new ways to slow the progression of ALS and improve quality of life. To that end, we are involved in clinical trials of new drugs and other therapies.
