Clinical Trial Protocol ID
00012661

Clinical Trial Investigator Name
Beth A. Staffileno, DNSc

Clinical Trial Title
African-American Womenęs Response to Physical Activity

Clinical Trial Protocol Description

Hypertension, or elevated blood pressure, is a national health concern, especially among African-American women. Physical activity is one way for women to engage in a healthy lifestyle, yet many women are too busy to incorporate physical activity into their life. Researchers at Rush are studying whether a home-based program of lifestyle physical activity has an effect on blood pressure. This lifestyle approach to physical activity could allow women to fit physical activity into their daily routine.

To qualify for this 11-week study, an initial screening interview, and study-related physical examination and lab tests will be performed at no charge. Participants will be reimbursed for parking or travel expenses.

Clinical Trial Eligibility Criteria
  • African-American women between the ages of 18 and 45
  • Slightly elevated blood pressure but not already taking medication
  • Nonsmoker
  • Willingness to participate in an 11-week program
