Avoiding Delays
- Submit the completed grants and contracts proposal routing form with the grant application or contract. This form contains information vital to the Office of Sponsored Research Projects review and processing of the grant application or contract. Be sure to list contacts to help avoid delays. If the project involves more that one department, be sure to obtain the approval of all departments involved.
- Discuss the research project with your section director or chair and office administrator before submitting the proposal, as they need to understand any significant issues or commitments related to the project. Discuss the institution’s level of commitment for this project with your section director or chair and the dean.
- The office administrator can assist in the budget process. If he
or she is unaware of current rates or other information, consult the
useful information section of this site.
- Discuss the scope of work in conjunction with the budget for the project and review the sponsor’s application forms with your office administrator and the Office of Sponsored Research Projects before seeking institutional approval. They can offer assistance in researching the sponsor’s specific requirements.
- Obtain approvals of the various committees listed on the routing form if they need to review or approve your proposal:

Animal Use IACUC
Deceased Subjects
Radiation Safety
Biosafety Recombinant DNA
Transgenic Animals
Pathogenic Agents
Biological Toxins
