Patient Transfer Information
Transferring Critically Ill Patients
If you need to transfer a critically ill patient to Rush University Medical Center, whether the patient has a Rush physician or not, call (800) 250-3609. Services include 24-hour coverage from trained critical care physicians and support staff. Rush coordinates all transfer (but not transportation) needs, so patients arrive with pre-admission status. When you call, you will be asked to provide basic information on the patient, including clinical and insurance status.
Transferring High-Risk Mothers and Infants
Rush has been designated by the state of Illinois to serve as the regional center for a network of Chicago-area hospitals providing quality care to high-risk mothers and babies. If you need to transfer an obstetrics patient to Rush, please call (312) 942-5073 and ask for a maternal-fetal physician for a consultation. If you need to transfer a critically ill infant, please call (312) 942-5068 and ask for a neonatologist for a consultation. Both numbers are staffed 24 hours a day. When you call, you will be asked to provide basic information on the patient, including clinical and insurance status.
