Graduate Medical Education
Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery

Application Information

Prospective fellows (except for research-based fellowship/observership) will be asked to register for the match at the SFMatch website and read about the new process for applying for Ophthalmology Fellowship training in 2008. Once registered, you can view our program listing on the SFMatch directory website for all required documents, including the application. Please be sure to check "View Profile" in our program listing.

The selection process is based on academic achievement, a demonstrated interest in academic endeavors and the reference letters. Applications will be screened by program faculty, who will personally interview the candidates. Approximately 15 candidates per year will be notified to come for an interview held in the early fall.

The rank list is submitted to the San Francisco Matching Program. Candidates will likewise submit a rank list of their desired fellowship programs. The final match will occur on the date determined by the San Francisco Matching Program.

International Candidates

Applications are welcome from international candidates. To actively participate in the clinical and surgical activities, candidates must qualify to obtain an Illinois permanent physician medical license #036 and an H1B visa which allows full clinical activities.

International Research Based Fellowship/Observership

International candidates who would like to participate in a research-based fellowship/observership can apply for a one-or two-year fellowship and will be considered separately. Please e-mail our Fellowship Coordinator at the address below and clearly indicate "RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP / OBSERVERSHIP." A license is not required for this program.

The application deadline is August 11, 2008. Please direct inquires to:
