Conferences
- Vascular case conference Tuesdays 7:00-8:00 AM
This conference involves the vascular service from Rush University Medical Center and the interventional radiology service from Rush. Typically, three interesting cases are presented. Case presentations by fellows involve hands-on review of diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions as well as discussion of pertinent and applicable literature.
- Core Curriculum Conference Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 AM
The vascular fellows alternate presenting selected chapters to the vascular service and staff. In this way every fellow is assured of thoroughly reviewing basic information in a formal manner over the course of their training.
- Noninvasive Vascular Lab Conference every other Wednesday 11:30-12:30
This conference includes lunch and is presented by the Technical Director of the vascular laboratory. Cases presented highlight detailed didactic consideration of noninvasive vascular studies, and when applicable, the vascular fellow presents corresponding angiographic studies. This conference is attended by vascular ultrasound technology students, ultrasound technologists, radiology and vascular staff, vascular fellows, and surgery residents.
- General Surgery Morbidity and Mortality Conference Thursdays 6:30-8:00 AM
All surgical complications from Rush University Medical Center and Stroger Hospital of Cook County are presented on a weekly basis. The vascular fellow is responsible for submitting an accurate case list to the appropriate office for inclusion. This conference provides an excellent review of common general surgical board topics.
- Cardiovascular-Thoracic Departmental Morbidity and Mortality Conference Second Wednesday of every month 7:00-8:30 AM
All complications from the vascular, cardiac, and thoracic services are presented by the fellows. Presentations involve diagnostic workup, therapeutic intervention, and hospital course. Didactic information with literature support is an expected component of the presentation.
- Vascular Journal Club First Wednesday of every month 5:00-6:30 PM
Preparation for the monthly journal club is a way to ensure review of the pertinent literature. The first-year fellow compiles a list of 10-15 articles from the previous months major journals. From these, five are chosen for discussion four clinical and one basic science. Over dinner, a fellow or resident presents each of the selected papers. This format provides continuous familiarity by the fellows with the most important and applicable papers published.
