Curriculum & Goals

This one-year ACGME Vascular Neurology fellowship will include a comprehensive experience in stroke care in the setting of major academic institution. Rush University Medical Center is a 674 bed medical center that serves as the main teaching hospital for Rush Medical College.

The neurology floor at Rush is a modern 19-bed inpatient unit, which includes the inpatient stroke unit and also includes 6 full-time EEG-monitored beds. The neurointensive care unit at Rush is a 17-bed state-of-the-art unit with its own dedicated imbedded CT scanner.

The stroke program also runs a neurosonology laboratory, which includes transcranial Doppler and carotid ultrasound capabilities. The Rush Stroke Program is JCAHO-certified as a primary stroke center. The section group also includes an endovascular neurologist, one of the few in the city. There is also a close working relationship with cerebrovascular neurosurgery and endovascular neurosurgery. There is ample clinical inpatient exposure to acute stroke interventions including IV-tPA and intra-arterial therapies, as well as exposure to outpatient stroke management with the clinic experience.

This ACGME fellowship meets criteria for vascular neurology and graduates will be eligible to sit for the ABPN vascular neurology boards.
