Graduate Medical Education Department (GME) is responsible for the tracking, documentation, licensure, orientation, payroll, benefits and verification for more than 620 Rush housestaff (residents and fellows) each year. The GME staff assists and supports Rush Housestaff in their hectic lives, keeping them informed of Rush requirements, changes, and any graduate medical education and human resources issues and policies that affect them.
The GME office coordinates information with over 75 academic training programs through a system of program coordinators who represent each program. The GME office serves as the principal liaison between the active Rush House Staff Association and Medical Center management, and is an advocate and resource for all housestaff.
GME supports accreditation of programs by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and other Boards and functions as the liaison between the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation - IDFPR and many other outside agencies.
The GME office reports to Susan Vanderberg-Dent, MD, associate dean of graduate medical education and, ultimately, to Thomas Deutsch, MD, senior vice president and dean of Rush Medical College.
