Sleep Medicine Fellowship
Laboratory Responsibilities

The fellow will be required to initiate a standard monitoring montage for an inpatient after undergoing training in the technical aspects of polysomnography. Interaction with the polysomnography technicians is encouraged as long as clinical operations are not disrupted. An understanding of basic monitoring procedures, potential artifacts and trouble-shooting procedures will occur.

The ability to interpret diagnostic tests including polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing, actigraphy, maintenance of wakefulness testing, ambulatory testing and sleep logs will be required. As outlined by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, a minimum experience of interpretation or review of 200 polysomnograms and 25 multiple sleep latency tests is suggested. Validation of the interpretation should be accomplished by discussion with a technician or attending.
