Program Overview: Clinical Training
The cornerstone of care for patients suffering from refractory chronic rhinitis and rhinosinusitis is medical therapy. Even patients requiring surgery demand long-term medical management.
Fellows will participate in an extremely busy clinical practice with significant independence but under the direct guidance of the program director at all times. Fellows will learn both evidence-based medicine as well as “off-label” use of many medications often required for refractory rhinosinusitis as few drugs are FDA-approved for chronic rhinosinusitis, i.e. they will learn both the “art and science of medicine”.
They will also learn the clinical aspects of facial plastic surgery, including facial analysis, the art of dealing with both the “typical” facial plastics patient and the “difficult” patient, office-based procedures including BotoxTM, RestylaneTM, JuvidermTM, RadiesseTM, facial implants, aesthetic skin care and resurfacing, as well as the marketing and business aspects of medicine.
The fellows will receive extensive training in ENT allergy and learn both in situ and in vivo testing techniques, behavioral management, pharmacotherapy, and immunotherapy.
The fellows will work alongside a full-time allergy nurse and rotate for several full-time clinics with a general allergy practice at Rush University Medical Center.
Call will consist of only one week per month for the private practice only with no ER call duties, and the fellow will assist with one half-day weekend clinic per month.
