Carla R. Scanzello, MD, PhD
Carla R. Scanzello, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, Section of Rheumatology with a conjoint appointment in the Department of Biochemistry. Dr. Scanzello serves as attending physician at Rush University Medical Center and at the John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital of Cook County.
Dr. Scanzello is a member of the American College of Rheumatology,
the Arthritis Foundation, and the Osteoarthritis Research Society International.
Her clinical interests include inflammatory osteoarthritis and Rheumatologic
disorders in the elderly. Her research is aimed at understanding inflammatory
responses to altered extra-cellular matrix in the setting of post-traumatic
and aging-related osteoarthritis. She has received research funding from
the American College of Rheumatology Research and Education Fund and the
Association of Specialty Professors. Dr. Scanzello’s work has been published
in journals such as Osteoarthritis and Cartilage and Journal of Rheumatology.
Dr. Scanzello received her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center and her fellowship in Rheumatology at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
