Joel A. Block, MD

Joel A. Block, MD, is the Willard L. Wood, MD, Professor of Rheumatology, and is a professor of medicine and biochemistry in Rush Medical College. He is director of the Section of Rheumatology and director of the Rush Center for Clinical Studies at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Block is the principal investigator for a number of clinical research studies and has received research grants from the National Institute of Health and the National Arthritis Foundation. Dr. Block serves as an attending physician at Rush University Medical Center.

Dr. Block is a Diplomate in Rheumatology of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also a member of numerous professional organizations including the American College of Rheumatology, the Central Society for Clinical Research and the Orthopedic Research Society. His work has been published in numerous scholarly journals including the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Arthritis and Rheumatism, the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Rheumatology and The Lancet.

Dr. Block received his medical degree from Washington University. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Chicago and his fellowship at Rush University Medical Center.
