Graduate Medical Education
Residency in Psychiatry

Admission Process

We greatly appreciate your interest in our program.  We accept applications for PGY-1 positions over the Internet via ERAS, the Electronic Residency Application Service.

A complete application must include:

  • Your dean's letter of evaluation
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A copy of your medical school transcript and diploma
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A personal statement describing your interest in psychiatry training.

The Interview Day at Rush

Interviews are conducted November through January on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Applicants attend two psychodynamic psychotherapy seminars conducted by Arnold Goldberg, MD, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The seminars provide applicants with an excellent opportunity to observe some of the psychodynamic teaching provided in our residency and to meet all of the residents. Applicants spend the rest of their day interviewing with attending faculty members and speaking with the residents while at lunch or on tour of the medical center.

For more information on how to submit your application, please contact your medical school dean's office. Canadian applicants should contact the Canadian International Matching Service at (613) 237-0075. All other international applicants should contact ECFMG ERAS Program via fax at (215) 222-5641, or by phone at (215) 386-5900. Information for foreign applicants is available online at www.ecfmg.org/eras/ or e-mail erashelp@aamc.org. Hard copies of residency applications are not accepted.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Psychiatry at (312) 942-2099 or by e-mail at elizabeth_small@rush.edu. Selected applicants will be contacted by e-mail to schedule a day to interview with our faculty and residents.
